No Firefighters Injured In Collision

A woman died after being in a crash with a Denver Fire Department firetruck on Saturday morning.

Phil Champagne, spokesman for Denver Fire Department, said the firetruck was responding to a fire call when the collision happened at around 11:30 a.m. at the intersection of Hampden Avenue and Yosemite Street.

Denver Police Department Lt. Matt Murray said an 80-year-old woman died as a result of the crash.

A Hyundai sedan was going through the intersection when the firetruck collided with it. The firetruck struck the car on the driver's side door and the car was pushed at least 30 yards. Four vehicles were being towed away from the crash scene early Saturday afternoon.

Murray and a witness told 7NEWS that the firetruck was proceeding through the intersection with a green light when the collision occurred. The firetruck was traveling east on Hampden.

Champagne said no firefighters were injured but the driver of the Hyundai had to be cut out of the car by firefighters.

After the elderly woman was rescued from the wreckage, firefighters performed CPR on her before she was transported to a local hospital, Champagne said. She has not been identified by the Denver Medical Examiner yet.

Champagne said the firetruck was running emergent with lights and sirens on. The firetruck was responding to a nearby fire that was in a planter outside of a building.

The crash is still under investigation.
