COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Interstate 25 was closed for about a half hour on Thursday in Colorado Springs after biohazard waste from tattoo parlors spilled from a truck. The Colorado Springs Fire Department was called at 11:45 a.m. when two 5-gallon containers fell off the back of a truck.Firefighters said the containers split open spilling needles, gauze and other items tainted with blood and other bodily fluids.
Traffic was diverted off the interstate at North Nevada Avenue while firefighters and workers with the Colorado Department of Transportation cleaned up the mess. While workers were cleaning up the debris, a second spill was reported. Officials said because that spill was on the shoulder and not the highway, the road was not closed. The driver of the truck, Daniel Keith Olson, 53, was cited for failure to secure his load.
