Mountain Lion Kills Black Labrador

Wildlife Division Brings In Trained Hunter

POSTED: 8:10 pm MST January 19, 2012

A mountain lion killed an 85-pound black Labrador in the foothills southwest of Colorado Springs and residents are worried.

The pet's carcass was found by its owner in the Red Rock Valley neighborhood off Colorado Highway 115 earlier this month, the Gazette reported. The area has about 50 homes.

"As soon as I found him I knew exactly what had happened," said owner Crystal Ryon. The large dog had been killed and dragged 50 yards from the yard where he was last seen.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife said other pets in the neighborhood have also been killed and the state agency brought in a hunter to track and kill the lion.

The hunter's dogs searched the area earlier this week but his dogs lost the lion's scent. He will return, if there is another sighting.
