EVERGREEN, Colo. -- Colorado Rockies outfielder Larry Walker discovered the remains of a dead body on his property over the weekend while riding around on an all-terrain vehicle.
Walker's property is in a rather exclusive area, the 1400 block of Autumnwood Lane, west of Bergen Park.
Officials say Walker found the body of the man in a wooded area near a trail on his land -- not near his home -- around 10:45 a.m. Sunday.Detectives say the body was decomposed and appeared to have been dumped on the property quite a while ago. A preliminary investigation showed the death as a possible homicide."The way the body had been, the way it was recovered, actually the surroundings around the body and the way it was decomposed -- all these things lead us to believe it has been there sometime, not recently placed," said Jefferson County Sheriff's spokesman Jim Shires.
An autopsy is scheduled Monday to determine the manner of death and to try and identify the body.Detectives also plan to look over surveillance video from cameras located on Walker's property. Walker is not considered a suspect.Walker, an outfielder for the Rockies, was not on the road with
the team in St. Louis because of an injury. Walker, a five-time
All-Star, was named the 1997 National League MVP.
