The CU Board of Regents Thursday extended the deadline to May 14 for the independent investigative panel to submit its final report on whether sex and alcohol have become fixtures within the university’s athletic recruiting experience.

"I'm just glad to have a date certain, said co-chair Peggy Lamm. "We'll do the best we can in the time allowed."

The panel also unveiled a nationwide tip line Thursday afternoon.

The toll-free number -- (866) 277-3200 -- can be dialed from anywhere in the country. All callers will remain anonymous.

"We're hoping that any current or former players, recruits or students with direct knowledge about recruiting activities will call the tip line and help us in our investigation," said Lamm. She also urged current or former CU employees to call.

The Independent Investigative Commission hopes it can learn information about whether sex and alcohol have been a part of the recruiting experience at the university.

At least eight women since 1997 have accused Colorado football athletes of rape, though no charges have been filed. Separate probes are under way by the state attorney general and university.
