Residents Near Old Elitch Gardens To Meet With Wal-Mart

POSTED: 6:45 am MDT April 15, 2004
UPDATED: 5:59 pm MDT April 15, 2004

People who live in the old Elitch Gardens neighborhood will attend a mediation session with Wal-Mart representatives on Thursday evening.

The community is fighting a proposed Wal-Mart neighborhood market. Last Friday, a group of residents picketed outside the home of developer Chuck Perry, near 32nd and Perry.

Protestors say they were promised new urbanism and stand alone buildings with small businesses. They believe Perry misrepresented plans to develop the land.

The mediation session is being held to discuss easing the impact of a huge store in a low-profile neighborhood.

The meeting is at 6 p.m. at North High School.
