Two Students Accused In Second Sex Attack On School Grounds

School District Won't Discuss Alleged Sex Assault

POSTED: 9:48 am MDT April 13, 2004

Two middle-school boys from Colorado Springs, Colo. are accused of pulling down a 13-year-old girl's pants and molesting her, but school officials won't say if they will be charged or disciplined.

Police said the same two boys are also accused in another sex assault with a different Holmes Middle School student. In that case, they face charges of attempted sexual assault, felony sexual contact and false imprisonment. As many as five boys, age 11 to 15, could face charges in that case, police said.

The two boys who were charged are due to appear in district court on April 30.

Police said both cases were reported on school grounds.

The school's chief of staff said that disciplinary information isn't made available to the public. District 11 policy is that any student charged with a felony involving violence is suspended immediately.

Administration officials initially didn't know about the allegations because Holmes Middle School officials didn't pass the information along to them. District spokeswoman Elaine Naleski said that school officials were told by police not to discuss the matter because it was under investigation, so they didn't inform the district.

“In the future, we’re going to ask the principals to pass this kind of information on to the administration,” she told the Colorado Springs Gazette.

She said school officials have now discussed the issue with the school and the security department of the district, but won't make any discussions public.
