Police are searching for vandals who ransacked several classrooms at Arvada High School overnight, causing thousands of dollars in damage. When police arrived Tuesday morning at the school, located at 7951 W. 65th Ave., they found damaged furniture, smashed-in computers and shattered glass everywhere. The vandals also apparently moved a large iguana from a classroom to a school bathroom on the first floor. Arvada animal control officers were called to the school to contain the animal.
Police officers and officials with the Jefferson County schools are investigating why the school alarms did not go off.Arvada High School students are currently on spring break, so no student classes were affected.Anyone with more information about the case is asked to call the Arvada Police Department at (720) 898-6900.Two months ago, vandals drove a stolen car through the front entrance of the school building and left it there. The cost of damage in that case was estimated at $50,000. Classes were delayed while investigators cleaned up the area.
