DENVER -- It's like that movie "Weekend at Bernie's."

Two men face charges, accused of transporting the body of a friend to various Denver-area bars and using his credit card.

Denver police arrested Robert Jeffrey Young, 43, and Mark Rubinson, 25, for investigation of abuse of a corpse, criminal impersonation and identity theft.

The incident was reported on Aug. 28, but the two weren't arrested until last week, according to court records obtained by 7NEWS.

According to the police affidavit, the two men put the body of their friend, Jeffrey Jarrett, in a car and went barhopping before returning him to his home and notifying police.

Jarrett's body remained in the back seat while the pair drank and ate at Teddy T's bar and grill and Sam's No. 3, according to the affidavit. After they dropped him off at home, they took his bank card and continued on at Viva Burrito and Shotgun Willie's, where they withdrew $400 from an ATM and stayed until closing time, according to the affidavit.

The two men have not been charged in Jarrett's death. An investigation into how Jarrett died is under way and is pending toxicology tests.

According to a police affidavit, Rubinson said Young called him around 11 p.m. Aug. 27 and told him that something was wrong with their friend, Jarrett. When they arrive at Jarrett's home, they find Jarrett unresponsive so they load him into a car and then drive to the Teddy T's, where they hung out for more than 90 minutes, the police report said.

Police said the two men used Jarrett's credit/debit card to pay for the drinks and "they did not have Jarrett's consent."

Rubinson and Young then drove to another restaurant to hang out, then returned to Jarrett's home where they carried Jarrett into the house and put him in bed, leaving him there while they went to get gas at a 7-Eleven and grab a burrito at a local burrito joint.

At Shotgun Willie's, they flagged down a Glendale police officer and told him they thought their friend was dead. Police went to Jarrett's home and found the body.

Young told detectives it was obvious to them that Jarrett was dead while all three men were at Teddy T's.

Young posted a $2,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in Denver County Court for a preliminary hearing on Sept. 27. Rubinson posted a $3,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in Denver County Court on Oct. 4.
