Woman Who Started Hayman Fire Back In Court

Prosecutors Want Barton To Pay $14.7 Million

POSTED: 10:45 am MST March 9, 2004

The woman accused of starting the largest wildfire in Colorado history is back in court Tuesday.

Federal prosecutors say Terry Barton should be ordered to pay $14.7 million in partial damages from the Hayman Fire.

Barton admits to starting the Hayman Fire and is now serving a six-year federal sentence and a 12-year state sentence.

The judge initially denied the restitution request but prosecutors appealed that ruling to the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals for a decision.
