Boulder County officials are looking for additional "identity theft" victims who may have used two dry cleaning businesses and had their personal information stolen.According to the sheriff's office, a Boulder County resident reported that her credit card had been used to make purchases over the Internet without her permission. The resident told investigators that her credit card had been used to purchase over $600 worth of bodybuilding diet supplements.Investigators said they traced the transaction to Denver where they executed a search warrant at a residence in the 1400 block of Little Raven Street.
Chad Carpenter, 33, was arrested after investigators said they recovered most of the property obtained by using the woman's credit card. They also found the computer used to make the purchases.Investigators said that a forensic examination of the computer revealed that another victim's credit card was being used to pay for Carpenter's Internet access. Both victims said they used their credit cards at the same dry cleaning business, Colony Cleaners in Louisville and Comet Cleaners in Boulder. Investigators found that Carpenter frequently worked at the family business and would have had access to the customers' credit card information.Detectives also learned that Carpenter works as a certified financial planner in Denver and has access to a large amount of personal financial information. They've asked that anyone with information regarding to case to contact them.Anyone wishing to provide information about any crime while remaining anonymous, may do so by contacting Boulder County Crimestoppers at (303) 440-7867.
