DENVER -- There will be partial closures on Speer Boulevard next week to fix crooked lane striping from recent road construction.Over the last two weeks, both directions of Speer Boulevard between Broadway and Corona Street were ground up, repaved and restriped.7NEWS found many lane markings on southbound Speer Boulevard between Logan and Corona Streets were out of alignment.
"Currently the way the lanes are driven, there is not one lane going into the other lane. There's a safe distance between the lanes for all vehicles right now," said Denver Public Works spokeswoman Daelene Mix. "We're still investigating to figure out exactly what went wrong in this instance, but in the city and county of Denver, our crews do maintain over 1,500 lane miles of road and occasionally this will occur."Drivers experienced major delays while the repaving project took place. Public Works will need to close some of the southbound lanes again next week to erase and repaint the stripes."We want to make sure that the public understands that the current situation out there isn't unsafe, but we are going to remedy it," said Mix.

Restriping Could Take 2 Days, Cost $1,500
The fix will cost $1,500 in supplies and manpower. The partial lane closures will happen over one or two days next week between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m."We'll certainly look into the situation to make sure that our crews don't make this mistake again in the future," said Mix. "When this type of mistake occurs, it's usually not noticed until the paint has dried and until the crews are further down the road."7NEWS also found out that a contractor damaged a stoplight at Speer Boulevard and Washington Street. The light is now hung with a span wire instead of a permanent fixture. According to Mix, new light materials won't arrive for a few months. Once they've arrived, she said Xcel Energy and the city will install the new light. The cost of the new stoplight is $20,000 and will be paid by the contractor.Report a typo or inaccuracy
