BRIGHTON, Colo. -- Police are trying to identify vandals who dumped furniture and a mystery liquid into the new Brighton Oasis water park pool just hours before its ribbon-cutting ceremony.Brighton police said surveillance photos show six unidentified adults climbing the fence into the facility in the early-morning hours of June 17. They tossed patio furniture into the pool and poured in the unidentified liquid.Police released photos showing two men and a woman inside the water park.
"Concern for public safety necessitated a complete decontamination of the pool prior to the ribbon-cutting ceremony that morning, because of the unknown liquid the suspects put into the pool," police spokesman John Bradley said. The vandals may have been pulling a variation on the old prank of pouring soap into a fountain to fill it with bubbles, Bradley said, "but in a post-9/11 world, you never take anything for granted."There was no analysis done to identify the liquid that was poured into the water, he said.An unspecified cash reward was being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible, he said.Police asked that anyone who has any information about the incident, or can identify any of the individuals in the attached images, call Officer Francisco Alba at 720-685-7301. People wishing to remain anonymous can leave information on the Graffiti-Stoppers Tip Line, 303-655-2399.
