Police Release New Information In DeWild Case

Shoe, Purse Photographs May Jog Memory, Police Say

Edgewater police released new pictures and information Thursday in the case of Heather DeWild, the 30-year-old mother of two whose body was found wrapped in clear plastic and buried in a shallow grave near Highway 6 in Clear Creek Canyon.

Police hope that the new information could lead them to new clues and eyewitnesses.

DeWild disappeared on July 24, just days before her divorce from husband Daniel DeWild was finalized. She was last seen driving away from her estranged husband's Edgewater home.

A couple of weeks later, police found her car at a Wheat Ridge apartment complex, but there was no sign of her. Then, in September, a Colorado Department of Transportation worker moving dirt on Highway 6 between Golden and Black Hawk found her body wrapped in plastic. It was badly deteriorated but dental records confirmed that it was DeWild.

Investigators have questioned DeWild's husband and even searched his house twice. Detectives gathered several boxes of evidence but never disclosed what they found inside.

While Daniel DeWild has never been named a suspect, police have been quick to point out that he has never been ruled out, either.

Police released photographs (pictured, right) of the shoes DeWild was wearing and the purse she was carrying when she disappeared. They have never been found.

"Our family hopes are that they jog somebody's memory and they come forward with information," said David Springer, Heather's father.

Edgewater police said they are confident they will eventually arrest a suspect in this case.

Heather DeWild's father hopes Thursday's release of new information about the crime scene will lead to new leads and eventually explain who killed his daughter.

He is now helping to care for her children, a 3-year-old girl and a 5-year-old boy.
