UPDATED: 5:37 pm MDT May 11, 2011

The preliminary hearing for Paul James Kerr, a former teacher, has been continued until June 21.

Kerr, 33, was a lead teacher at KinderCare, 5472 S. Federal Circle in Littleton.  He is charged with sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust and sexual assault on a child.

Court documents state school officials became aware of a possible assault after a 9-year-old girl told her parents, who notified the school.

Police arrested Kerr April 14.  After being read his Miranda rights, records show he agreed to an interview in which he admitted to touching a 9-year-old girl while she was undressed.  Kerr stated he did it to check the girl for marks of abuse, according to the arrest affidavit, but then later admits he did it for sexual gratification.

During that same interview, documents show Kerr said he would place a 5-year-old girl on his lap during naptime and would tickle her to become aroused.

Records go on to state Kerr admitted to walking into the bathroom when a 10-year-old student would be changing out of her school uniform into her street clothes on three occasions to become sexually aroused.

During the investigation by the Littleton Police Department, police said four other parents reported similar concerns while in the care of Kerr.

According to documents, the older students attended the KinderCare for after-school care.
