A fire that may have started in a chimney forced an Evergreen family out of their home Tuesday night.
Firefighters arrived at a home on the 3800 block of Mountainside Trail within nine minutes of receiving the call about a fire. They found smoke coming out of the chimney. Crews were able to contain the fire within 45 minutes.
Authorities suspect the chimney was the cause of the fire, but the investigation is continuing."Chimney fires are common this time of year. The only way to take care of it is have your chimney cleaned," said Jay Jackson, Evergreen assistant fire chief.Officials said the smoke detector saved the family because it alerted them to the fire in time for them to make their escape.
