DENVER -- An Adams County psychologist was ordered to close his practice Thursday as a result of using sexual toys to treat an allegedly sexually abused child in 2001.The Board of Psychologists Examiners also revoked the medical license of John Dicke. The board began the investigation two years ago after receiving complaints from the patient's father and Adams County Social Services.
"The board also found that Dicke's treatment technique of encouraging, directing and practically forcing the child to reenact the traumatic experience had a potentially negative impact on the child's functioning," read a statement issued Thursday.Attorney General Ken Salazar's office filed administrative charges against Dicke on behalf of the board in 2002, alleging that Dicke encouraged the child to disrobe and remain naked during therapy sessions and that Dicke used synthetic penises during therapy with the child. An eight-day hearing earlier this year resulted in an administrative law judge's factual finding that Dicke's treatment of the child was substandard in a number of ways. The order from the board requires Dicke to close his practice and to stop practicing psychology within 45 days.
