Vandals Damage Mesa Verde National Park

Officials: Shots Fired At Park's Entrance Station

UPDATED: 12:15 pm MST March 4, 2011

A vandal with a gun damaged the entrance station at Mesa Verde National Park this week.

Park officials told 7NEWS someone fired two shots at the entrance station off Highway 160 either late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning.

The entrance station has bullet-proof glass so the bullet didn't penetrate the glass, but it did crack it, officials said.

Damage is estimated at $2,000.

Mesa Verde National Park is in southern Colorado between Durango and Cortez. The park protects more than 4,000 known archeological sites, including 600 cliff dwellings.
