Police: Officer Took Child Porn, Sex Toys To Work

Officer Put On Unpaid Leave

UPDATED: 11:04 am MST December 18, 2010

Police in Colorado Springs have arrested Aurora police Sgt. Morgan Sellman, 39, on suspicion of sexual exploitation of children for possession of child pornography.

Some of the child porn was found on a personal laptop Sellman took into work, according to an arrest warrant obtained by the Colorado Springs Gazette. The newspaper reported that the laptop case, obtained from Sellman's office, also contained sex toys.

Investigators said there is no evidence that Sellman ever had any personal contact with a victim or used a city of Aurora computer to store images of child pornography.

Aurora police released a statement that said they learned about the investigation on Wednesday and immediately put Sellman on administrative leave with pay.

When Sellman was arrested Friday, he was put on unpaid leave, officials said.

Sellman is a 14-year veteran of the Aurora Police Department, officials said. He most recently oversaw management of the department’s purchasing, distribution and inventorying of equipment and uniforms. Sellman also served as DARE coordinator, managing the programs budget, scheduling, supplies and administrative tasks. Officials said Sellman is not currently certified as a DARE instructor and did not deal with students. He last taught in the DARE program in 2001, officials said.
