Woman Pleads Guilty To Taking Infant From Mother

Rueda-Banuelos Befriended Baby's Mother

A Denver woman accused of taking a 2-week-old boy from his mother last summer pleaded guilty to kidnapping Monday.

Darlene Sylvia Rueda-Banuelos, 30

Darlene Rueda-Banuelos, 30, was calling herself "Rosa," when she befriended the baby's mother then took the child while all three were out for a walk on June 3.

An Amber Alert was issued statewide and the infant, Mauro Ramirez-Soria, was found in Rueda-Banuelos' sister-in-law's house in northwest Denver home the next day.

Rueda-Banuelos pleaded guilty to second-degree kidnapping in Denver District Court. She will be sentenced Dec. 15. She faces up to six years in prison.

According to the police affidavit, the suspect's teenage daughter tipped police to the baby's whereabouts after she saw news reports about the amber alert and the alleged abduction. The teen told detectives she became suspicious when her mother came home and told her to baby-sit.
