DENVER -- Police took three teenagers into custody Thursday after reports that one fired a gun into the air while walking down the 1200 block of Macon Street near Aurora Central High School.
Aurora Central was locked down and Kenton and Jamaica elementary schools held indoor recess after a neighbor reported a boy walking down the street with a gun.
Police said the boy reportedly shot the gun into the air near another group of youths.
Police took three people, two 14-year-old males and a 16-year-old male, into custody and were questioning them. They earlier said they believe they knew who the gunman was and that he is a student at Central High.
As the search continued, officers recovered a semi automatic handgun and a 30 round magazine in the 900 block of Macon.
Authorities also said they didn't think the gunman was firing at anyone in
particular.
Two of the juveniles, the 14-year-old males, are being held for investigation of possession of handguns by juveniles. The Arapahoe County district attorney will make the final determination regarding formal charges in the matter.
No injuries were reported as a result of the shooting, which happened around 10:50 a.m.
