Boulder Police Ready For Naked Pumpkin Run

Penalties Not As Severe This Year For Nudity

POSTED: 10:39 am MDT October 2, 2010
UPDATED: 12:02 pm MDT October 2, 2010

If this year's naked pumpkin runners return to wearing just pumpkins, Boulder police say they'll be ready to write tickets.

But a new city ordinance means the streaking scofflaws will face a less severe penalty than in 2008. Some of those ticketed during the annual Halloween run that year faced the prospect of being classified as sex offenders. That's because they were cited with indecent exposure under a state law.

People accepted plea deals for lesser penalties.

Last Halloween, runners wearing pumpkins on their heads covered up to avoid trouble.

The Daily Camera reports that a new city ordinance carries penalties of a fine up to $1,000 and/or 90 days in jail -- but no mandatory registration as a sex offender.
