Elk Falls Into Empty Estes Park Pool
Wildlife Officers Remove Tranquilized Elk From Pool

ESTES PARK, Colo. -- A female elk wandering in Estes Park fell through a tarp covering an empty pool Thursday afternoon, prompting a rescue operation by wildlife officers.The 4- to 5-year old cow landed in a resident's pool at Glacier Lodge. The pool was empty except for collected rainwater in the deep end.The elk struggled to get itself out of the pool but then gave up and waited for rescuers.
Colorado Division of Wildlife Officers tranquilized the elk before removing it from the pool by using a pony halter. The cow recovered by the side of the pool and wildlife officers expected it to make a full recovery.Duke DeGraaff, who works at Gateway Stable, called in the original report and assisted with the rescue.Glacier Lodge is located at 2166 State Highway 66 on the south side of Estes Park.
