Police Find Inconsistencies In Teen's Abduction Story

Search Continues For Men, Truck, Described By Teen

POSTED: 9:28 a.m. MDT September 25, 2003

Boulder police say there are a number of inconsistencies in a teen's story about her abduction by three men.

The 14-year-old girl, who lives in Arvada and attends a private school in Broomfield, told police that she left a school outing in Boulder Tuesday morning and was abducted as she was jogging down a street. The teen said that three men drove around with her and that she managed to stab one of them in the leg before they let her go, unharmed.

The girl gave police enough information for them to make sketches of two of the alleged abductors, but not the third. She described both men (pictured, left) as Hispanic, wearing glasses and in their mid-40s.

Police said there was no evidence of a weapon involved and that is one of the inconsistencies in the teen's story about stabbing one of the men.

She told police the men didn't assault her, but did "grab" her a couple of times. She had scratches that didn't require treatment.

The girl said he men dropped her off at the Bobolink Trailhead near Baseline and Cherryvale roads and that she walked two miles to Arapahoe Ridge High School before reporting the abduction to a school resource officer.

Police drove her around but she could not find the place where she was allegedly abducted.

Although the teen was unable to provide enough information about the third suspect, who she described as an Hispanic man in his 30s, she did give extensive details about the pickup truck that she said she rode in with the three men. She described it as a reddish-orange, older Chevrolet full-size pickup with rusting wheel wells, a Kansas City Chiefs license plate bracket on the rear, and a Chihuahua, Mexico, bumper sticker on right rear bumper.

Anyone who has information on the case is asked to call Boulder Police Det. Jane Harmer at (303) 441-3381. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (303) 440-STOP.
