10-Year-Old Accused Of Setting Boy On Fire
Charges Pending Against Both Boys
POSTED: 1:09 p.m. MDT September 24, 2003
A Grand Junction, Colo., boy is under arrest after police said he set another 10-year-old boy on fire briefly using a can of spray paint and a lighter.
The victim suffered second- and third-degree burns Monday, but
was released after a night at the hospital.
The incident happened Monday afternoon inside an abandoned home in the Paradise Hills subdivision.
The victim told police the other boy lit the spray paint on fire
with a lighter as he pointed the can at the victim's face, Grand
Junction police Sgt. Paul Quimby said Tuesday.
It was unclear whether the incident was intentional, Quimby
said. Police did not release the boys' names.
The boy was arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault. He was taken to the Grand Mesa Youth Services Center.
Police said both youths could be charged with burglary and criminal
mischief for entering the abandoned home and allegedly
spray-painting profanities. Neither was identified because of their age.
