A Marine ran into a burning home and pulled a man to safety.

The fire started Monday around 11 p.m. in a home on West Caley Avenue near South Gallup Street.

"The occupant went back in to save his cat," said 7NEWS engineer John Betancourt.

Marine Corps 2nd Lt. Joe Popovich ran in after the man and pulled him from the burning home.

"The occupant was struggling and could not come out without (Popovich's) help," said Betancourt.

It took 23 firefighters about 40 minutes to put out the fire, said Roland Seno, operations division chief with Littleton Fire Rescue.

"A neighbor is credited with assisting one of the occupants from the home through a window," said Seno.

Both people who lived in the home were evaluated at the scene and did not need to be transported to the hospital.

The cause of the fire was being investigated.
