SUPERIOR, Colo. -- A bunny hit by blow darts has been found and rescued from a neighborhood in Superior.A group of children first spotted the young rabbit last week. The children told animal control the rabbit was shot with three orange darts. One dart hit the rabbit in the hind legs, making it limp a little bit, Animal Control Specialist Sara Spensieri told 7NEWS.The rabbit disappeared under a neighborhood fence. Spensieri told 7NEWS she looked for the rabbit, but couldn't find it.
Over the weekend, someone brought the bunny to the Greenwood Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. The darts have been removed and the rabbit is doing OK, Lindsey Goodwick, the rehabilitation center's volunteer services manager, told the Boulder Daily Camera newspaper.Once it recovers, the bunny will be released into the wild.In Superior, there is an ordinance against cruelty to animals, according to Spensieri. However, people can kill rabbits if the animals are damaging their property.Spensieri said there were a few incidents of rabbits being hit by blow darts a few years ago, but the incidents stopped suddenly. Spensieri doesn't believe the old dart shootings are related to the recent incident.
