FRISCO, Colo. -- The Federal Bureau of Investigation and Summit County Sheriff's Office is investigating the destruction of a U.S. flag that had been placed on the top of Peak 1 last Friday.
The flag and flagpole (pictured, left) were burned in what the Sheriff's Office said "may be" foul play.
No suspects have been identified, and authorities are asking for tips that might lead to those responsible."There were anti-American writings in the log book at the top of the peak," said 7NEWS reporter Ronda Scholting, who was covering the story in Frisco. She and 7NEWS photojournalist Major King hiked with the group Friday that went to the top of the 12,933-foot mountain to place the new flag. It replaced a flag placed earlier that had been ravaged by the weather.Anyone with information was asked to call the Summit County Sheriff's Office at (970)453-2232 or Crime Stoppers at (866) 453-7867.
