GOLDEN, Colo. -- Authorities said Sunday that the body found along Highway 6 in Jefferson County Thursday is that of a mother missing since July.
The county coroner had asked the DeWild family for dental records after a highway worker discovered the body wrapped in plastic buried in a pile of dirt on the side of the highway that winds through Clear Creek Canyon.
Heather DeWild, 30, disappeared from Edgewater, Colo., after meeting with her estranged husband just days before their divorce was to become final.
The cause and circumstances surrounding DeWild's death remain under investigation, Jefferson County sheriff's spokesman Jim Shires said. Police in Edgewater, a small suburb surrounded by Denver and Wheat Ridge, continue to investigate. A Jefferson County grand jury has also been looking into Dewild's disappearance but has returned no indictment.
DeWild's 1996 Nissan Sentra was found Aug. 4 in the parking lot of a Wheat Ridge apartment complex after two residents saw it and called authorities. Her estranged husband, Daniel Dewild has previously given police permission to search his home and has met with investigators.
The couple's two children, ages 5 and 3, have been living with Heather DeWild's parents.
