LONE TREE, Colo. -- It's not quite Cash for Clunkers, but it's still a good way to save some money and help the environment. The Regional Air Quality Council will host a lawn mower swap in Lone Tree on Saturday, May 1.Just bring your old gas-powered mower and you can get up to 50% off on a battery-powered model. The RAQC will offer three different models of Neuton mowers which normally sell for $399, $299, and $99.
"We're inviting people to come down and bring those older polluting lawn mowers in exchange for a great discount on these rechargeable mowers," said Sarah Anderson, Communications Manager at RAQC.Anderson said air pollution from mowers and other yard equipment is a big problem. She said they make up 10% of the ozone-causing emissions in the Denver area."It could really help out our air this summer. So if you can switch over to a greener alternative, that's a great thing to do for your home," she said. Some residents have other complaints about the gas-guzzlers. "The pollution and the noise. I don't like hearing those mowers buzzing all around the neighborhood all day long," said Denver resident Cheryl Burger. The event is being held near the Sky Ridge Medical Center and it's called Mow Down Pollution. If you don't have a lawn mower to trade in, you can still buy a Neuton mower at the event, but you'll pay about $25 more.If you plan to go, you need to register.
