A huge fireball believed to be a giant meteor lit up the skies over most of the Midwest on Wednesday night.

The flash of light in the sky was reported just after 10 p.m.

Witnesses reported seeing all sorts of colors and one big blast followed by several smaller blasts.

Mark Baden, chief meteorologist for Milwaukee TV station WISN, said people from as far away as Iowa and Ohio saw the fireball, which was likely a meteor.

"A meteor of this size is pretty unusual," he said.

Local police departments in several states fielded hundreds of phone calls. No impact site has yet been found.
