Colorado's Unemployment Rate Rises
Jobless Rate Still Much Lower Than National Scenario

DENVER, Colo. -- The unemployment rate in Colorado jumped to 7.7 percent last month, according to statistics released by the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment.The department said that the state lost 1,700 jobs between January and February of this year. The rate in January was at 7.4 percent. Colorado's unemployment rate still remains far below the national one, which is hovering just below 10 percent.The department of labor reported the peak of the recession appeared to hit in June, 2009. The unemployment rate hit a high of 8.3 percent and has since decreased to around the current level.
The highest jobless rate was found in Dolores County -- in the southwest part of Colorado -- at 18.7 percent. The Denver Metro region's unemployment rate is at 8 percent -- up one-tenth of a percentage point since January. Colorado Springs remained at 8.9 percent.
