DENVER -- The math teacher credited with tackling the shooting suspect at Deer Creek Middle School last month was given a new car Tuesday.Shortline Subaru gave Dr. David Benke a brand new 2010 Outback Crossover.Benke told 7NEWS, "I'm just bowled away, I just look at it and I just think this is cool. I can drive this and I'm going to look cool."
Benke was outside Deer Creek Middle School in Jefferson County when a man opened fire. Benke and several others tackled the man and held him until police arrived. Two students were shot, but both are recovering.Benke said he only did something anybody else would do. He said, "I never expected anybody to say anything but 'good job' and 'what are you doing tomorrow in math class?'"The math teacher said he's received several things for his heroics. He talked to his pastor, who said, you take a couple things and the rest you give away. Benke had been driving a 9-year-old vehicle, which he's going to donate to the Lewis & Floorwax Foundation.
