WESTMINSTER, Colo -- At a time when money is tight, some schools in Colorado are getting a gift of sorts from the state.

It’s called the BEST program, Building Excellent Schools Today.

Over the next few years, local districts across Colorado will get close to a billion dollars for school repairs.

One such school that will benefit is Ranum High School in the Adams 50 District

The roof of the school that was built in the 70’s, is damaged.

“My daughter says it’s sagging. You can see it,” said Natalie Garner, a parent.

Because of the BEST program, Adams 50 will be able to make the necessary repairs.

“It allows schools districts like us to be able to address capitol needs projects that otherwise would go unmet,” said Adams 50 Superintendent Roberta Sellek.

The funding comes after the state looked at which school systems have the biggest needs and the smallest tax base.

It’s an attempt to make the schools of today into the schools of tomorrow.

"Absolutely, that would be beneficial.” said Garner.
