Colorado Springs Residents Can Help Turn Lights Back On

DENVER -- You can help turn the streetlights back on in Colorado Springs by adopting a streetlight.Colorado Springs is turning off 8,000-10,000 streetlights to save money.However, the city has created a streetlight adoption program "to help interested citizens reactivate streetlights that have been turned off over the past six weeks as part of a $1.2 million cost-saving measure" under the 2010 budget, according to Colorado Springs Gazette newspaper.
The price is $75 a year for a residential light and $180 for an arterial light, which serves larger, multilane streets. The adoption fee may be tax-deductible.To adopt a streetlight, visit the city of Colorado Springs Web site.When adopter pays for a light, it will be turned back on within 10 days.
