Taylor Moudy Guilty In Suburban Teen Crime Wave

Moudy Convicted In Shooting Of Deputy After Robbery-Burglary Spree

POSTED: 5:28 pm MDT March 17, 2010

A jury found a young man involved in a suburban teen crime-spree guilty on two counts each of attempted murder and first-degree assault on a peace officer.

Taylor Lynn Moudy, 20, of Castle Rock, was also found guilty Wednesday of 10 counts of burglary and related thefts for his role in the month-long Douglas County crime wave with a buddy in summer 2008.

It ended June 28, 2008 with the then-19-year-olds in a high-speed chase in a stolen Honda as the teens allegedly fired from the rear window at two deputies in a patrol car, authorities said. One deputy was hit in the arm.

In a separate trial earlier this month, Moudy was found guilty of aggravated robbery and second-degree kidnapping for his role in the armed robbery of a Castle Rock convenience store.

Police said the suspects were caught on surveillance video during the robbery at the Circle K Convenience Store June 11, 2008. The video showed two men clad in all black military-style wear, brandishing a semiautomatic assault rifle.

The teens were accused of stealing rifles from a gun shop, burglarizing cars and homes and stealing several cars, including three Hummers, a Lexus and a Mustang.

The suspects escaped after the deputy was shot, despite a massive manhunt involving dozens of deputies, SWAT teams and a police helicopter.

But investigators, following tips and talking with people who knew the teens, eventually arrested Moudy five months later at the University of Colorado in Boulder campus where he was a student.

Moudy confessed to police and implicated his friend, Brandin Eugene Kreuzer, of Sedalia, the son of a veteran Denver police officer, according to an arrest affidavit

Moudy's sentencing is set for May 24.

Kreuzer awaits trial later this year.
