Fort Lupton Man Guilty In Cousin's Murder
2008 Shooting Was Over Suspected Affair

GREELEY, Colo. -- Fort Lupton resident Norberto Abundez, 43, has been sentenced to life in prison for the 2008 murder of his cousin.After a seven-day trial, a jury needed just four hours to convict Abundez of first-degree murder.Weld County Sheriff's Deputies arrested Abundez on July 12, 2008. According to the Weld County District Attorney's Office, the law enforcement reports from the shooting said that Abundez drove to his cousin's home and shot him once in the head with a .22 caliber rifle. Jesus Abundez-Plige died instantly.
According to the DA's office, Abundez told deputies he shot Abundez-Plige for having an intimate relationship with Abundez's wife. Abundez and his cousin had a fight about the relationship five months before the shooting, which resulted in Abundez cutting the hand of Abundez-Plige.Abundez was also found guilty of violating his bond conditions and violating a protection order. He will spend life in prison without the possibility of parole.
