HUDSON, Colo. -- Suspended Hudson Fire Chief Johnny Blackston has resigned after 20 years with the fire department. Blackston was suspended without pay on March 8 for undisclosed reasons but was due to return March 23. Instead he resigned Monday at a fire board meeting packed with supporters. Blackston was the only paid firefighter in the department.
He told the board he didn't know why he was suspended. After the meeting, he said there was some dispute about his pay hours and mileage compensation, but he'd resolved that issue."I might reconsider coming back to the department,” Blackston said, “but not with the current board." Board members said they couldn't publicly discuss the suspension because it is a confidential personnel issue.
