Men Suspected Of Illegally Storing, Dumping Hazardous Materials

DENVER -- A state grand jury has returned an indictment against two men accused of illegally storing and dumping hazardous waste.Hazardous Waste IndictmentAccording to the indictment, starting in 1999, Maurice Weiss, 69, and his company AccuPress Printing, Inc., possessed and stored hazardous materials without proper permits.
Richard Wilmer, 66, is suspected of storing the chemicals on his property without a permit and later disposing the chemicals in a dumpster without a permit.Weiss is also suspected of selling a tractor trailer containing the chemicals to Wilmer and transporting it to Wilmer’s Denver home in March 2006.According to the indictment, the chemicals were toxic, ignitable, flammable and/or combustible. The indictment states that in an interview with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, Weiss admitted to using a printing equipment cleaner called toluol or toluene. Toluene poisoning can occur when someone swallows the substance, breaths in the vapors or when the substance touches the skin.The Office of the Attorney General investigated the case and secured the indictment with the assistance of the Hazardous Waste Unit of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and the Environmental Protection Agency’s Emergency Response program and Office of Special Investigations.
