Arrest Made In Deputy Shooting
Sergio Gomez-Estrada Investigated For Attempted Murder Of A Peace Officer

ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. -- After a SWAT situation at an Adams County apartment complex, the Sheriff's Office makes an arrest in the weekend shooting of a sheriff's deputy. Sergio Gomez-Estrada, 25, is in custody and being investigated for attempted murder of a peace officer and first degree assault.Adams County sheriff's deputies and SWAT personnel spent Monday afternoon at the apartment complex in the 1700 block of Coronado Parkway, where an Adams County sheriff's deputy was shot Saturday night. Deputies were on routine foot patrol, when they heard a disturbance. Several shots were fired, and one deputy was hit. That deputy was treated at the hospital and released.Major police activity at the complex was reported by 7News reporter Marc Stewart. Stewart said the apartment complex had been surrounded by yellow crime scene tape.
Stewart spoke with apartment residents who told 7News that deputies have been walking around the complex for hours, but that activity ramped up between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m.Adams County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Candi Baker said authorities were at the apartment complex to follow up on the shooting investigation. The number of personnel on scene was a response to the nature of the shooting and precautionary, since the shooter still hadn't yet been arrested.
