DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. -- A woman who accused a Parker police officer of sexual assault and beating her has pleaded guilty to false reporting.Emily Petersen, 23, pleaded guilty on Monday, and had felony charges of forgery and attempt to influence a public servant dropped. In June 2009, Petersen accused a Parker police officer of sexually assaulting and beating her during Parker Days. According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, Petersen was sentenced to two years probation, 100 hours of public service and alcohol treatment and monitoring.“Hopefully the sentence that was handed down will be a lesson to those that think falsely reporting a crime to authorities is not a serious issue," said Douglas County Sheriff David Weaver. "This shows that false reporting is taken serious and these types of cases not only do a disservice to actual victims, but also waste law enforcement resources that could be better directed elsewhere."
As part of her sentence, Petersen will have to pay $6,043 to cover the cost of the investigation. She must also write letters of apology to Parker Police Department and the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
