Families Displaced In Aurora Apartment Fire
No One Injured In Early Morning Blaze

AURORA, Colo. -- No one was injured but six families were displaced by an early morning apartment fire in Aurora.Firefighters responded to the 2 1/2 story building at 46 N. Oakland St., northwest of Alameda Avenue and Peoria Street, around 6 a.m. Firefighters said stairs leading to the upper floors burned through. The fire was brought under control at 6:39 a.m.The Mile High Chapter of the American Red Cross has opened a temporary shelter for an estimated 16-40 displaced residents. The shelter is at the New Hope Community Church at 17699 E. Hampden Ave. near the intersection of Hampden Avenue and Tower Road.
In situations such as these, the Red Cross typically provides for essential immediate needs such as shelter or housing, food, blankets, comfort kits, clothing and help refilling medications destroyed by the fire.The fire knocked out electricity in the complex. An investigation revealed the fire started in the laundry room of the building, according to Alan Robnette with the Aurora Fire Department.
