The Montrose County Coroner has positively
identified human remains found earlier this week as those of a missing woman.
Irene Trujillo, 47, disappeared April 9 after a friend dropped her off at her rented home in Montrose.
Two workers installing a water hydrant on Monday found the woman's remains in a hole they were excavating at Montrose Stone.
Trujillo co-owned that business with her estranged husband, Rick, who still lives at the site.
He reported her missing April 11 after he brought the couple's three daughters to her home for their regular weekend
visit.
The couple was in the process of messy divorce, in which they were disputing about how to split up the business and 360-acre property, said her attorney Harry Tucker Jr.
Coroner Mark Young said it will take several weeks to determine
the cause of Trujillo's death.
Authorities have opened a homicide investigation because there appear to be significant signs of trauma and foul play, said Montrose Undersheriff Dick Deines.
The Colorado Bureau of Investigation have begun further excavations at the site, which is at 58658 Spring Creek Blvd, and in surrounding buildings and nearby vehicles.
