DENVER -- Authorities are searching for a person who shot and injured an Adams County sheriff's deputy.Sheriff's officials said two deputies were on a routine foot patrol in an apartment complex on the 1700 block of Coronado Parkway Saturday night. They heard a disturbance and went to check it out. Several shots were fired at deputies as they approached."I first heard a pop, pop, pop," said witness Laura Deshaw-Montez. "I thought they were firecrackers. Then I thought, no, that's not what firecrackers sound like, there was a gun that went off."
One deputy was wounded, according to Sgt. Candi Baker. No one else was injured."Oh, my Lord, I'm scared. That's just chilling to know that we were so close to something like that, that could happen," said Deshaw-Montez.The deputies didn't see who was shooting, and did not return fire. Investigators scoured the area, but the gunman got away."Unfortunately, when you're there and it's the heat of the moment and there a lot of people there, a lot of activity, trying to identify who was involved, who were witnesses, is not that apparent," said Baker. One witness told 7NEWS she saw a man running from the scene, but could not give a description.Anyone with information is asked to call the Adams County Sheriff's Office at 720-322-1313.
