Terror Probe Leads To CO Woman's Arrest

POSTED: 11:13 pm MST March 12, 2010
UPDATED: 11:32 pm MST March 12, 2010

The family of a Colorado woman says she is in custody in Ireland in connection with a terror probe.

Jamie Pauline-Ramirez and her young son vanished from Leadville on Sept. 11, 2009, 7News has confirmed with the Leadville Police Department.

The Wall Street Journal quoted sources close to the investigation that have stated Pauline-Ramirez is now in the custody of the Irish police along with six others that are under investigation for conspiracy to commit murder. Paulin-Ramirez is the second American woman to be linked to an alleged plot to kill a Swedish cartoonist who made fun of the Prophet Mohammad.

The Wall Street Journal reported the 31-year-old mother was working as a medical assistant when she disappeared.

Leadville Police Sergeant Saige Thomas said, "She didn't take any extra items with her. There was still money left in the house. She had recently converted to become a Muslim. The scarves that she had recently purchased were still left in the house, so it was not normal behavior for her to leave and not take these items if she was planning on being gone for any length of time."

Paulin-Ramirez's mother called Leadville police after her daughter's disappearnce, launching a missing persons investigation.

Sergeant Thomas said, "What her mother and aunt had portrayed to me was that this was not normal behavior for her to just be gone and not answering text messages or telephone calls, not answering emails. They normally had had quite a bit of correspondence. This seemed quite a bit out of character."

According to the Wall Street Journal, Paulin-Ramirez flew from Denver International Airport to New York and then on to Ireland, where she is now reportedly in the custody of the Irish police.

Paulin-Ramirez's mother confirmed to 7News that her daughter was arrested on Tuesday in Ireland.
