Autopsy 'Inconclusive' On Cause Of Death

WESTMINSTER, Colo. -- The body of a "near term fetus or term infant" was found stuffed in a cloth travel bag in a Westminster home on Wednesday, officials said.An autopsy conducted Thursday was "inconclusive" as to how the baby died, according to the Adams County coroner. Further testing is being done.The occupants of a home in the 4100 block of West 111th Circle, near West 112th Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard, discovered the body inside the residence, the coroner's office said. Officials didn't provide addtional details.
Investigator Trevor Materasso said all information in the case has been sealed by a judge.Colorado has a law to prevent newborn abandonment. Parents can hand over their unwanted baby, up to 72 hours old, to an employee at a fire station or hospital, no questions asked. Twenty-nine babies have been turned over since the law was enacted in 2000.Colorado Safe Haven for Newborns is the non-profit organization working to get the word out about the Safe Haven law. They have a 24-hour toll-free hotline anyone can call: 888-510-BABY (888-510-2229). Trained staff is available to counsel a person in crisis about what to do.
