A UC Denver student and a friend, who had attended classes at the Auraria campus, were followed from a light-rail station, beaten with brass knuckles and robbed at knifepoint outside a convenience store Wednesday night, police said.

The robbery is the latest in a string of violent crimes reported at the Auraria campus this month.

The Auraria Police Department issued a crime alert Thursday about the latest assault. Police said the attack happened at about 9:20 p.m. Wednesday, the same day the school held a town hall safety meeting to address the recent stabbings, assaults and robberies.

The victims were attending classes on the campus and were approached by two men "who began a verbal confrontation" as they left the Colfax at Auraria Light Rail station, police said in the crime alert.

The attackers followed the victims and robbed them at knifepoint just outside the Circle K store on Colfax Avenue, police said. Both victims were struck multiple times with brass knuckles. The attackers fled eastbound on Colfax with money and personal property, police said. The victims' injuries were reported as minor and both refused medical assistance.

The attack was the fourth this month.

On the evening of March 5, a student was assaulted and robbed while leaving a car in a lot behind the Campus Village Apartments. No arrests have been made in the case.

On March 8, two students at the Inn at Auraria dorm were stabbed after a break-in. Denver police said Trey Quinn, 22, and Nicholas Castle, 21, were both arrested and accused of aggravated robbery.

Then hours later, just after 3 p.m., a woman was grabbed and punched in an attempt to get her purse. That incident happened along the sidewalk at Seventh and Lawrence Streets. No one has been arrested.

At the town hall safety meeting on Wednesday afternoon, police said the crimes were not related.

One of the attackers in Wednesday night's robbery is described as a Hispanic male, 5 feet 8 inches tall with short black hair. Police said he was wearing a gray hoodie and blue jeans. The man carried a butterfly knife. The second man is described as Hispanic, 5 feet 11 inches tall, wearing a black hoodie, blue jeans and a plain black baseball cap with a flat brim. He was carrying a set of brass knuckles.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Auraria Police Department at 303-556-5000. Police said there also are blue light emergency phones throughout campus and in the parking lots that can be used to report suspicious people or activities.
