Summit County Avalanche Victim Identified
Daniel Michelotti Worked At Breckenridge Ski Resort

KEYSTONE, Colo. -- A 20-year-old backcountry snowboarder who died in an avalanche near Loveland Pass was identified Thursday as Daniel Michelotti. Summit County Coroner Joanne Richardson said the slide happened at about 3 p.m. Wednesday, about a mile west of Arapahoe Basin ski area, on the south side of U.S. Highway 6.Two other snowboarders who were behind and above Michelotti survived the avalanche.
None of the three were carrying avalanche rescue equipment such as beacons or shovels.The two friends estimated that it took 20 to 25 minutes to get a cell phone signal and to reach Michelotti who was partially buried.Richardson said Michelotti, an employee at Breckenridge Ski Resort, was from Spring Grove, Ill.He moved to Colorado in November.The two other men were also from Spring Grove. One of them arrived in Colorado two days before the avalanche.
