A driver who left the scene of a hit-and-run then returned with his parents has been charged with driving under the influence. Robert Jesse Gallegos, 22, is accused of driving drunk and hitting a 24-year-old woman who was walking near Evans Avenue and University Boulevard early Saturday morning.

The pedestrian, Lindsay Howland, was critically hurt and taken to Swedish Medical Center.

Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey charged Gallegos with two felonies: vehicular assault - DUI and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in injury. He was also charged with a misdemeanor DUI.

Gallegos is out of custody on a $50,000 bond. His next appearance in Denver County court will be March 22.
