DENVER -- Workers digging into dirt to install a water hydrant in Montrose struck a shallow grave and found what appeared to be human remains, Montrose police said.
The body, found at 7:22 p.m., appeared to have suffered from trauma and there are significant signs of foul play, said Montrose Under Sgt. Dick Deines.
The Montrose County Sheriff's Office, the County coroner, the District Attorney's Office and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation were notified of the discovery. The area near 58658 Spring Creek Blvd. was sealed off overnight so that the investigation could begin in daylight Tuesday. Investigators planned to use a search warrant to enter Montrose Stone, located near the hydrant.
The business is co-owned by 47-year-old Irene Trujillo. She's been missing for two months.
Trujillo was last seen April 9 when a friend dropped her off at
her home.
Authorities said she was discovered missing two days later when
her estranged husband brought the couple's three daughters to her
home for their regular weekend visit.
Investigators will wait for the coroner's report to determine if the remains are that of Trujillo.
